Flashpacking: The New Backpacking

Very early on in our research for the trip, we came across an article titled, "Essential Items for a Flashpacker". Hmmm...interesting...what does it mean?

Apparently, Flashpacking is Backpacking for the 21st century. It’s no longer about walking into a hostel without a reservation or wearing the same shirt for a week; Flashpacking is Backpacking with means. The Flashpacker has the Backpacking ethos, but wants to do it with a little more style and a lot more technology.

We are talking about Steve after all…here’s a recent picture of the drawer in our living room:

It didn’t take us long to figure out which camp be belonged in!

If Backpackers are defined by their lack of stuff, Flashpackers are defined by their small but necessary collection of pricey gadgets such as a netbook, SLR camera, eReader, iPhone and extra hard drive. Check, check, check, check and check.

Just call us Flashpackers.
